Standard Chartered Bahrain has agreed to become one of the official sponsors of the 2013 Bahrain Marathon Relay, according to the Bahrain News Agency.
Under the deal, the financial services company will run the ‘Corporate Challenge’, a race especially for companies to take part in. It will also promote activities and raise awareness of its global sustainability initiative ‘Seeing is Believing’, a programme aimed at tackling avoidable blindness.
The event, in its 32nd year, is believed to be the longest race in the Middle East with a distance of 48km – featuring 16 legs of 3km running stints.
Hassan Jarrar, chief executive of Standard Chartered Bahrain, said: “We’ve been in Bahrain for over 90 years and sponsoring the race is yet another way for us to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the country.”
Standard Chartered is now title sponsor of nine marathons across four continents and six races including the Bahrain Marathon Relay.
This year’s event takes place at the Bahrain International Circuit on October 25.
