English Premier League football club Southampton has entered into a partnership with vitamins and supplements company Healthspan Elite.
The terms of the deal, under which Healthspan Elite will collaborate closely with Southampton as its official nutrition partner and exclusive vitamin supplier, were not disclosed.
In a first for the club, Southampton will share data with Healthspan Elite and work towards developing new products to enhance the performances of its players.
Southampton currently uses Healthspan Elite’s probiotics, fish oils and multivitamins in its immune strategy, which is designed to limit the number of training sessions missed by its first-team players.
Southampton’s head of sports science Alek Gross said: “We’ve been using Healthspan Elite’s products for some time now and each of our players has a daily intake of vitamins to support the health and wellbeing plans we have in place. This partnership, however, will allow us to explore our strategy even further. By maximising the knowledge and expertise from both parties, we’re aiming to develop supplements that will aid the performance and recovery of our players.”
Chris Fisher, head of Healthspan Elite, added: “The concept of creating supplements and products with the guidance of Southampton Football Club is hugely exciting. Southampton is doing something different and it’s of great interest to us.”
