French financial services group Société Générale has reached an agreement to sponsor the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan after extending its partnership with World Rugby.
The announcement was made ahead of the pool draw for the tournament in Kyoto tomorrow (Wednesday).
Société Générale first partnered with the Rugby World Cup in 1999, when the event’s main host was Wales.
The company joins Emirates, Heineken and Land Rover as top-tier worldwide partners of the 2019 World Cup, which will take place from September 20 to November 2.
World Rugby said the full worldwide partner inventory is on track to be completed before the event’s two-years-to-go mark.
World Rugby chief executive Brett Gosper added: “The announcement also reflects a Rugby World Cup 2019 commercial programme that is on track to be finalised in record time and with record value, underscoring the continued and ever-increasing appeal of the event and the sport in the global marketplace, including in Asia.”
Société Générale will also sponsor this year’s World Rugby Awards, which will take place in Monaco on November 26.
