The Scottish Football Association and Scottish Professional Football League have warned of the “significant unintended consequences” of a potential ban on alcohol brand sponsorships across sport, as the Scottish government begins its consultation on restricting alcohol advertising and promotion.

Both the SFA and the SPFL will contribute to the consultation process, and are encouraging clubs, other sporting and event bodies, and supporters to do likewise. It is hoped these contributions will highlight the potential “multi-million pound” cost a ban on alcohol sponsorships would have across Scottish football.
