The Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) and Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN), the country’s national electricity company, have renewed their sponsorship contract until the end of 2015.
The deal is part of the COP’s programme to help its athletes in their preparations for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
COP president Jose Manuel Constantino hopes the deal with REN will pave the way for further sponsorship deals to support the country’s prospective Olympians.
He said: “The support of national companies is essential to enable us to promote the Olympics and sport in general in Portugal. Despite the difficult (economic) times we are going through, we hope that REN will be just one of several private entities to work in partnership with COP and support our Olympic athletes.”
