Red Bull Racing computes extension with IBM

The IBM Spectrum Computing division of US technology and consulting corporation IBM has extended its partnership with Formula One motor racing team Red Bull Racing.

The new four-year deal will ensure IBM Spectrum receives branding exposure on Red Bull’s cars until at least the end of the 2020 season. The company will retain its position as an ‘innovation partner’ of the team.

IBM’s branding will also be present around the Red Bull garage on race weekends. Red Bull used IBM Spectrum solutions during the development of its RB12 model, which is being used during the 2016 season.

As part of the new deal, IBM’s Spectrum Project technology will be used to back up the data generated by the Red Bull team on race weekends.

“Their scheduling and storage tools have become a key element in managing our work flow and (maximising) our data handling,” Red Bull Racing’s chief information officer Matt Cadieux said.
