Qatari retail chain Fifty One East and electronics giant Sony have agreed a three-year deal with the Qatar Football Association to extend their sponsorship of the Emir Cup club football competition.
Since 2011, Fifty One East and Sony have backed the season-closing competition that brings together Qatar’s first and second division teams over five stages. The 2014 Emir Cup final takes place on May 17 and will be held at Khalifa International Stadium.
Bader Al Darwish, chairman and managing director of Fifty One East’s parent company Darwish Holdings, placed the decision to extend sponsorship terms in the context of Qatar’s hosting of the Fifa World Cup in 2022.
He said: “Our sponsorship highlights our commitment to be part of the nation’s sporting legacy, helping position it as a leading destination for global excellence, as Qatar prepares to host the world’s biggest sporting extravaganza in 2022.”
The financial terms of QFA’s agreements with Fifty One East and Sony were undisclosed.
