Dutch-headquartered electronics giant Philips has reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to become the official lighting partner of the German Bundesliga football club and its Allianz Arena stadium.
The partnership is particularly significant given the make-up of the Allianz Arena, with its 29,000 square metre outer shell illuminated by LED lights.
Philips will now provide 380,000 LEDs and 8,000 of its ColorGraze lights as part of a fully digital stadium refit, in which each individual light point can be controlled in real time.
There is also a green element to the tie-up, with Bayern claiming Philips’ LED system will reduce the stadium’s energy consumption by around 60 per cent. The terms of the agreement were undisclosed.
Bayern Munich completed the domestic double in Germany last weekend, adding the DFL-Pokal crown to its Bundesliga title with a 2-0 final victory over Borussia Dortmund.
