Japanese electronics giant Panasonic has been unveiled as the title sponsor of British automotive marque Jaguar’s entry into Formula E, while US manufacturing company Lear Corporation will also partner its efforts in the electric car-racing series.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed as the team’s official name, vision, driver line-up and electric racing livery were also revealed today (Thursday).
From this October, Panasonic Jaguar Racing will compete in the third Formula E season with the first all-electric Jaguar racing car in history: the I-TYPE 1.
Jaguar said Panasonic will partner with the team to develop a future that “promises to push the boundaries of electric technology in a performance environment”. Lear Corporation will join as an official team partner.
Jaguar initially announced its return to top-level motorsport in December. Jaguar, whose parent company Jaguar Land Rover is owned by Indian automotive giant Tata Motors, has not had factory involvement in motorsport since withdrawing from Formula One at the end of the 2004 season.
The 2016-17 Formula E season gets underway in Hong Kong on October 9.
