Japanese electronics company Panasonic has been named the official ceremony partner of the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Panasonic, which has been a worldwide Olympic TOP partner since the International Olympic Committee’s global sponsorship programme began in 1985, will provide its backing to the opening and closing ceremonies of the multi-sport showpiece. The partnership marks the first time it has engaged in such a role with an Olympic Games host.
The company will supply Games organisers with various projectors, live switchers and other visual equipment to enhance both the in-stadium and televisual experiences.
Panasonic will work with the Rio 2016 ceremonies department in the lead-up to the Games and will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of its visual systems within the Maracanã Stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held.
In addition, Panasonic will provide large screen display systems, professional sound systems, security camera systems, televisions and broadcasting equipment.
Satoshi Takeyasu, executive officer of Panasonic, said: “There is no doubt that Rio 2016 will present unique and spectacular ceremonies and Panasonic’s technology and engineers will help deliver a great experience (for) spectators inside the Maracanã Stadium and for those watching from living rooms around the world.”
The opening ceremony of this year’s Olympic Games is on August 5, with the closing ceremony taking place on August 21.
