Orange says game on by partnering e-Ligue 1

French telecommunications company Orange has agreed a deal to title sponsor e-Ligue 1, the new nationwide esports competition launched by the French Football League (LFP).

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Orange brand will begin to appear in the national final of e-Ligue 1’s winter tournament, which will take place in Paris on January 14-15.

Orange will provide technical support to the LFP and e-Ligue 1, along with offering fibre broadband packages to the competition’s players.

The LFP teamed up with video games developer Electronic Arts’ EA Sports division to launch e-Ligue 1 in October.

The inaugural tournament features representatives of all 20 Ligue 1 top-tier clubs who will compete against each other on the Fifa 17 game. A spring championship will take place in February and March and then the play-offs to determine the tournament’s four finalists in May.
