Oil giant becomes title sponsor of Women’s Baseball World Cup

Japan’s largest oil company, JX Nippon Oil & Energy, has struck a major agreement to sponsor the 2014 Women’s Baseball World Cup.

Under the deal, JX Nippon’s leading brand, Eneos, will become the title sponsor of the tournament, which will take place from September 1-7 in Miyazaki, Japan. The event will feature the national teams of Australia, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, three-time defending champion Japan, the Netherlands, the US and Venezuela.

The Eneos logo will receive branding exposure around the two competition venues in Miyazaki and across digital and online platforms supporting the event. JX Nippon was a sponsor of the third Women’s Baseball World Cup in 2008 and is also a major sponsor in motorsport, with deals in series such as Nascar and Formula One.

JX Nippon agreed the deal with the World Baseball Softball Confederation, which operates the tournament. “The support and sponsorship of such an iconic Japanese brand has great potential to further raise the profile and appeal of women's sport in the eyes of other major brands and broadcasters,” the confederation’s president, Riccardo Fraccari, said.
