US sportswear company Nike has confirmed a 10-year extension of its partnership with football’s Chinese Super League.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed but earlier this week Chinese media reported that Nike is set to double its financial commitment to the CSL by paying RMB2.2bn (€291.2m/$346.6m) value in kind for kit and RMB800m in cash over the 10-year term of the new partnership.
Nike’s confirmation of the renewal coincided with the unveiling of its new kit for the Chinese national team. It has pledged to continue supporting the Chinese Football Association, grassroots initiatives and community services as part of the new agreement. It will also support the Hong Kong Football Association, Macau Football Association and other clubs throughout Greater China.
Nike said in a statement: “This contract renewal reflects Nike’s commitment to the growth of football in China, with support at both professional and grassroots levels.”
Nike’s current agreement with the CSL is due to expire at the end of 2019. The company has supplied kit for all 16 CSL clubs since 2011.
