Japanese automotive manufacturer Nissan has entered into a wide-ranging partnership with the Netball Australia national governing body.
As part of the deal, the length of which was not disclosed, Nissan will serve as a major partner of the newly-formed Super Netball League club competition.
Nissan will be directly involved with six of the eight Super Netball teams – Giants Netball, Melbourne Vixens, New South Wales Swifts, Sunshine Coast Lightning, Queensland Firebirds and West Coast Fever – and will also work with the Netball Australia, Netball ACT and Netball NT bodies.
The agreement also names Nissan as the official automotive partner of Australia’s national team.
The Australian-centric Super Netball League has been formed following the disbandment of the ANZ Championship, which also featured teams from New Zealand.
In other news, Netball Australia chief executive Kate Palmer has opted to step down from the role after 10 years at the helm of the body.
Under Palmer’s stewardship, the Netball Australia's revenue has grown from Aus$6m (€4.2m/$4.5m) in 2006 to Aus$26m today, with participation across Australia flourishing at all levels. Palmer will officially leave her position on December 23.
