South African telecommunications company MTN has extended its title sponsorship of domestic club football competition the MTN8.
The new five-year deal, which will run until 2022, was agreed with the Premier Soccer League organising body, which oversees the running of the MTN8 and South Africa’s top two divisions.
The 2016-17 MTN8 campaign begins on August 26. The winner will net R8m (€525,000/$595,000) in prize money, with R80,000 to be added to the pot for every goal scored during the tournament.
MTN has sponsored the event since 2008.
