Paints and coatings manufacturer Valspar Stain has signed up as the presenting sponsor of Major League Baseball’s Players’ Weekend, which is scheduled for August 24-26.
The event is returning for its second year and will cover all MLB games played over the weekend. Valspar becomes the first presenting sponsor of the event.
The Players’ Weekend is designed to showcase the personalities and interests of MLB players by allowing them to select a nickname for the back of their jersey and wear uniquely coloured and designed equipment.
Ambassadors for the Players’ Weekend include Ozzie Albies, José Berríos, Alex Bregman, Edwin Díaz, Didi Gregorius, Kiké Hernández, Rhys Hoskins, Brandon Nimmo, Albert Pujols and Andrelton Simmons.
During the weekend, players will wear specially designed uniforms, with jerseys by Majestic, caps by New Era and stocks from Stance. Players will be given the chance to recognise someone personal to them or a player who inspired him on a jersey patch on his right sleeve. Players will also be able to wear a t-shirt highlighting a cause or charity during pre-game workouts and post-game interviews.
Additionally, the ‘Evolution’ logo, which highlights a player’s progression from youth baseball to MLB, will also appear on the sleeve patch and on the back of each club’s cap and jersey.
“Players envisioned Players’ Weekend as a way to express themselves and connect with fans in a fun and more personal way,” MLB Players’ Association executive director Tony Clark said. “And the opportunity for Players to honour those who first stirred their passions for baseball at a grassroots level helps reinforce the way our game is handed down from generation to generation.”
