Australian residential development company Meriton has signed a one-year extension to its sponsorship of embattled National Rugby League team Wests Tigers.
The club, which was formed as a joint venture between Balmain Tigers and Western Suburb Magpies in 1999, is presently in the midst of upheaval at boardroom level and uncertainty regarding the future of coach Mick Potter.
But Meriton, the merger’s inaugural major sponsor, has agreed to remain on board for another 12 months, with the company’s founder and managing director Harry Triguboff telling the Bunbury Mail newspaper that he believes “common sense will prevail” on the present controversies.
Wests Tigers is currently 11th in the NRL standings after 18 matches of the 2014 season.
