Kuala Lumpur 2017 signs double deal

Electronics giant Sony and energy provider Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) have agreed deals to sponsor this year’s edition of the Southeast Asian Games multi-sport event, which will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Both Sony and TNB will serve as gold partners of the event. Sony Malaysia will serve as the official camera of the Games, with TNB having been assigned official energy partner status.

Sony will provide between 30 and 50 of its a9 cameras to official Games photographers as part of its agreement.

TNB will support the Malaysia Organising Committee’s green initiative for the event through campaigns such as the ‘One Medal, One Tree’ programme. The company will also provide generator sets for the Games.

Financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed, but the gold sponsorship category requires a contribution of between RM3m (€592,000/$701,000) and RM7.5m. The overall sponsorship revenue generated by the event has now reached over RM100m, exceeding organisers’ initial target by 25 per cent.

The SEA Games will run from August 19-30, with the ASEAN Para Games to take place from September 17-23.
