IPC Athletics, the international federation of Para athletics, has signed up Japanese sportswear company Asics as its latest official partner under a five-year deal.
The six-figure agreement is the first partnership of its kind for IPC Athletics with a sports brand. It will run through to 2020, when Japanese capital Tokyo hosts the summer Paralympic Games.
As part of the deal, Asics will provide apparel for all international officials and IPC Athletics staff and focus on the development and promotion of Para athletics and the Paralympic Movement. Asics will also have activation rights at selected major championships and events.
Ryan Montgomery, IPC summer sports director, said: “The length of their commitment shows the strength of Para athletics and we are excited (about) working together on future development and promotion of Para athletics over the next five years.”
Asics becomes IPC Athletics’ second official partner after German financial services group Allianz agreed a partnership with the sport in May 2014.
