The UK government is set to ask Premier League clubs to voluntarily give up their main shirt sponsorship activities with gambling companies rather than impose an outright ban.
According to The Times newspaper, the government’s soon-to-be published White Paper, updating the 2005 Gambling Act, will call on clubs to self-regulate on the issue, with the option of legislation kept in reserve.
