Asian betting and gaming group Dafabet has been named the title sponsor of snooker’s Gibraltar Open event, the sport’s international governing body has confirmed.
World Snooker has said the tournament will take on the official title of the Dafabet Gibraltar Open for its inaugural edition this week. The tournament is the fifth event on the sport’s European Tour series.
“Dafabet already sponsor the Masters and we’re thrilled that they’ve decided to add to their portfolio of snooker events,” World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn said. “Through (pan-regional broadcaster) Eurosport’s extensive live coverage they will receive outstanding exposure.”
The Gibraltar Open marks the first-ever professional snooker tournament to take place in the country. The 2015 edition got underway on Wednesday, with the televised stage beginning today (Friday) and concluding with the final on Sunday. Current world No.1 Mark Selby (pictured) heads the high-profile list of players taking part.
