Mexican lager brand Corona Extra has agreed a long-term sponsorship deal with the University of Texas in the US.
The five-year agreement will run from the 2017-18 academic year until 2021-22.
Corona Extra will serve as an official sponsor of the university’s Texas Longhorns sports teams, with access to the American football, basketball and baseball programmes.
The agreement also includes tickets to games, hospitality at Longhorns events, access to the ‘Texas Exes’ alumni community, as well as use of the University of Texas logo in certain point-of-sale, social, digital and other advertising materials.
In addition, Corona Extra will work with the university on a responsible drinking campaign and various fan-focused activities at Longhorns games.
According to The Comeback, the deal represents the first time that an alcohol brand has brokered a commercial partnership with a US university athletics department.
