German tyre manufacturer Continental has agreed a deal to sponsor the Vuelta a España cycling event.
The length of the agreement was not disclosed but it begins with this year’s edition of the race, which runs from August 25 to September 16.
The deal comes after Continental in December became an official partner of fellow Grand Tour event, the Tour de France. Continental said sponsorship of the Vuelta represents a “logical next step” following its Tour de France deal.
Continental’s sponsorship of the Tour de France covers the 2018 to 2022 editions of the event. As part of the agreement, fleet vehicles used by Tour organiser ASO will be fitted with Continental Ultra High Performance tyres.
Continental also supplies tyres for eight professional cycling teams.
