Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A football club Flamengo has agreed a lucrative shirt sponsorship deal with energy drinks company Carabao, according to multiple reports.
The UOL Esporte website reported that the two parties have signed a six-year agreement, subject to final approval, covering the 2017 to 2022 seasons.
The deal will reportedly be worth around R$200m (€58.9m/$61.2m) to Flamengo, with R$15m to be invested during the first year of the partnership and a further R$35m a year to be provided by Carabao between 2018 and 2022. A percentage of the revenue generated by Carabao sales will also be given to Flamengo.
Carabao’s branding is set to feature on the sleeve of Flamengo’s shirts during the 2017 season. From 2018, Carabao will reportedly replace government-owned bank Caixa Economica Federal as Flamengo’s main shirt sponsor.
“We believe it is a milestone not only in the history of Flamengo but also in the history of Brazilian football because it is the biggest sponsorship we see in Brazilian football history,” Daniel Orlean, vice-president of marketing for Flamengo, told GloboEsporte.com.
In November, Carabao agreed a deal with the English Football League (EFL) to become the new title sponsor of its EFL Cup club competition. The three-year deal will cover the 2017-18 to 2019-20 seasons.
Carabao is also a principal partner and the official training wear partner of English Premier League club Chelsea.
