World Rugby has struck a partnership with consulting, technology services and digital transformation provider Capgemini covering the men’s and women’s World Rugby Sevens Series and 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens.
Under the deal, Capgemini will serve as the official innovation partner of the series and the 2018 sevens showpiece, which will take place in San Francisco on July 20-22.
The agreement will run for six years, from 2018 to 2023.
Capgemini will work with World Rugby to enhance innovation and technology surrounding the series to enhance the fan experience.
Capgemini will be providing fans with greater access to deeper insights, including the use of data and infographics to improve the experience in stadia, on television and on social media.
World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont said: “We are excited about the activations that are planned in partnership with Capgemini, harnessing their expertise in technology, data and insights and their passion for rugby to innovate and enrich the fan-experience, reaffirming sevens as a leader in fan engagement.”
Capgemini has a 25-year association with rugby union, with a focus on French clubs. The company was also a sponsor of the 2007 Rugby World Cup, which was held in France.
