Ahead of its inaugural campaign, which begins next month, the Canadian Premier League has announced that Nike will become its Official Footwear and Equipment Supplier.
As part of the deal, players will wear Nike performance football boots while the Nike Merlin will be the Official Match Ball of the 2019 season.
This partnership was negotiated by Canadian Soccer Business on behalf of the seven-team CPL.
“We are thrilled to have Nike be the Official Footwear and Equipment Supplier as we count down to our inaugural season,” said David Clanachan, the Canadian Premier League commissioner. “Partnering with a leading soccer brand who sponsors some of the world’s best players and leagues is an exciting addition to our group of partners.”
Last month, the Mediapro agency agreed a 10-year deal to distribute media-rights for all Canadian football, including the CPL, worth a reported C$20m (€13m/$15m) per season.
Italian sportswear manufacturer Macron is the CPL’s Official Kit Provider while German carmaker Volkswagen has signed a sponsorship deal with the league.
The inaugural CPL season will be split in two, with spring and autumn champions meeting to decide the overall winner. Each club will play 28 regular-season games, 14 home and 14 away.
