British Cycling has announced the departure of chief executive Brian Facer amid growing questions over the governance of the organisation and criticism of a sponsorship deal with oil and gas company Shell.

Facer will exit with immediate effect, in what British Cycling claims is mutual agreement with its board of directors. The search for a new chief executive has now commenced, with cycling delivery director Danielle Every appointed as acting chief executive in the interim.
