BP is to continue its support of British athletes until 2016 after agreeing to become a top-level partner of the British Olympic Association and the British Paralympic Association.
The deal will cover the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
BP’s continued commitment also includes its relationship with six British Olympic and Paralympics athletes. The athletes are: Lizzie Armitstead, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Stef Reid, William Sharman, Richard Whitehead and Shelly Woods.
The announcement comes shortly after the energy company was confirmed as an official partner of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The deal will further strengthen BP’s global portfolio of athletics sponsorships, having also agreed partnerships to the end of Rio 2016 with the local Olympic and Paralympic committees of the US, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Trinidad & Tobago, as well as the local Paralympic committees of Angola and Georgia.
