BMW to title sponsor Berlin ePrix

The BMW i sub-brand of German automotive manufacturer BMW has been named title sponsor of the country’s leg of the Formula E electric car-racing championship, which takes place on Saturday.

The Berlin ePrix will officially be titled the BMW i Berlin ePrix as part of the deal. BMW has been the official vehicle partner of Formula E since the series’ inaugural 2014-15 campaign.

BMW i specialises in developing electric vehicles and its i8 sports car currently serves as the championship’s safety car. The all-electric BMW i3 model is also the Formula E medical car.

“As a pioneer in the field of electric mobility, we know that we must forge new paths, while at the same time remaining true to our fundamental values,” Joerg Reimann, vice-president of BMW Brand Experience, said. “As title sponsor of the 2016 FIA Formula E BMW i Berlin ePrix, we now have another opportunity to do just this with BMW i, in addition to our existing partnership as official vehicle partner. BMW i and Formula E are very well suited to one another.”

Saturday’s Berlin ePrix will mark the eighth round of the 2015-16 season.
