Online betting company Betway has agreed to become the title sponsor of snooker tournament the UK Championship.
The UK Championship is one of snooker’s ‘Triple Crown’ events alongside the Masters and World Championship. The first edition to be sponsored by Betway will be the 2015 competition at York Barbican from November 24 to December 6.
Terms for the partnership were not disclosed, but it follows Betway’s maiden move into snooker when it backed last month’s Shoot-Out and World Seniors Championship in Blackpool.
Betway’s chief executive Richard Akitt said: “Betway is delighted to confirm our commitment to snooker fans everywhere by extending our presence in the sport in sponsoring such a prestigious tournament. Snooker is a sport that is going places, with worldwide viewing figures increasing year-on-year, and it’s fantastic for us to be associated with the game as it breaks new ground.”
Ronnie O’Sullivan (pictured) won his fifth UK Championship crown last year with a 10-9 victory over Judd Trump in the final.
