Betway backs new British basketball event

Online bookmaker Betway has been unveiled as the title sponsor of this year’s British Basketball All-Stars Championship, a newly-formed event.

The event will take place at London’s O2 Arena on September 24 and will feature a record-breaking £100,000 (€109,000/$130,000) prize fund.

The All-Stars Championship has been launched by sports promotional company Matchroom Sport through an agreement with British Basketball.

Each team at the event will feature five players, with unlimited substitutions to be allowed. Other features will include time outs and a double-point powerplay.

Eight of the UK’s top teams will compete at the event, which will comprise 13 matches in total.

Anthony Werkman, director of marketing and operations at Betway, said: “At Betway, we like to be at the forefront of new ideas and we strongly believe that the All-Stars Championship will deliver a thrilling experience to basketball fans and Betway customers at the O2 Arena.

“We’re also really pleased to be working with Matchroom Sport on another event. We have an excellent relationship with them and have worked on a number of successful sponsorships together.”

Matchroom has also partnered with England Netball to launch the British Fast5 All-Stars Championship, which will take place at the O2 Arena the day before the basketball event.
