Portuguese olive brand Azeite Royal expanded its shirt branding rights with Brazilian Série A club Vasco da Gama for last weekend’s ‘classic’ game against Flamengo.
Azeite Royal already gets branding on the back of the club shirt under a deal signed with Vasco in July. Last Saturday, it expanded the deal to include branding on the shoulders of Vasco’s shirt in the Rio derby.
According to Brazilian press sources, the move was a test that could lead to more permanent branding.
Eduardo Giraldes, the owner of Azeite Royal, said: “I’m going to renew the contract next year and I’m already studying the possibility of having our brand positioned not only on the back but also on the shoulders. We have already tested this game.”
Azeite Royal is also a sponsor of Campeonato rivals Botafogo, branding the upper back of the shirt, and Fluminense, where it brands the lower back of the shirt.
The brand’s exposure in football is geared toward gaining space on supermarket shelves and increasing sales.
