AS Roma secures 10-year deal with Nike

ITALIAN SERIE A football club AS Roma has agreed a ten-year kit supply deal with American sportswear company Nike.

The Oregon-based brand will become Roma’s Official Apparel and Equipment sponsor from the 2014-15 season, providing playing and training kit to the club.

“AS Roma is committed to becoming the premier football club in the world, on and off the field,” said AS Roma chief executive Italo Zanzi.

“This partnership is a fundamental step in that mission. Nike’s dedication to football excellence and global brand building is aligned perfectly with our objectives. We are extremely excited about our future together.”

Nike’s agreement comes after Roma terminated its deal with Italian sports equipment manufacturer Kappa in November, citing serious defects in the equipment provided.

Kappa will continue to supply Roma’s kit until the end of the current season, but the club confirmed to Sports Marketing Frontiers that it will not have a technical sponsor during the 2013-14 season.

Nike currently sponsors fellow Italian Serie A sides Juventus and Inter Milan, as well as several other top flight European clubs including Manchester United and FC Barcelona.
