US sportswear giant Nike has agreed a long-term extension to its partnership with the University of Arizona’s Wildcats sports teams.
The deal went into effect on July 1 this year and runs for 10 years through until June 30, 2025.
Financial terms were not disclosed but a statement from Arizona Athletics said that the value of the partnership “ranks Arizona among the top tier of Nike’s stable of college athletics departments.”
Nike remains as the official athletic footwear, apparel and equipment provider to Arizona’s 20 athletics programmes. It initially partnered with the university in 2006.
University of Arizona director of athletics Greg Byrne said: “Through conversations with student-athletes, coaches and staff, we concluded that Nike was the preferred apparel company for the University of Arizona. This was confirmed by a peer institution who recently conducted a survey of student-athletes, resulting in an overwhelming majority stating that their brand of choice was Nike. The information that was gathered played an important role in Arizona Athletics’ decision-making process as it underscores the institution’s commitment to providing student-athletes with the best support possible.”
