Allam strikes deal to keep squash showpiece in Hull

The British Open Squash Championships will return to Hull for the next three years after Dr Assem Allam, the owner of English football Premier League club Hull City, signed a deal to continue as the title sponsor of the event.

Allam, who is originally from Egypt, has guaranteed equal prize money for the women’s event to match the men’s competition by 2017.

The championships will take place at Hull’s Airco Arena from May 11-17 this year.

“This event is truly a ‘national treasure’ and it is fantastic that this three year deal will take us to 2017 when Hull will take the spotlight as the UK City of Culture,” Allam said.
