Telecommunications firm Airtel has reached an agreement with the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association to continue its title sponsorship of the FUBA National Basketball League, according to the New Vision website.
Under the terms of the agreement, the competition will be known as the FUBA Airtel League for a second consecutive year.
Although the full extent of the package was not disclosed, Airtel’s deal will support the entire first division. Each of the top league’s 20 teams will receive UGX3m (€898/$1,172).
Despite the Airtel funding, individual teams under the deal will be also able to seek sponsorship agreements with rival telecom companies.
