Fifa has confirmed the appointment of Scottish-based temporary power provider Aggreko as a branded licensee for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Under the agreement, Aggreko will supply power solutions to the tournament’s international broadcast centre and stadiums in the 12 host cities to ensure the successful delivery of television images from matches.
Competition organisers project that the Aggreko deal will save $20m (€14.7m) in running costs for Brazil’s host cities, including up to $5m in Rio de Janeiro alone.
Niclas Ericson, Fifa’s TV director, said: “The deal is of huge importance as it not only ensures the successful delivery of the TV images but will also result in a significant reduction in operational investments for all 12 host cities.”
