Sportswear company Adidas has struck a new long-term partnership with the University of Miami and extended an existing deal with Florida International University.
The Miami deal will run for 12 years, from 2015-16 until 2026-27.
Under the agreement, which will come into effect from September, Adidas will replace rival Nike as the official athletic, footwear, apparel and accessory brand of the university’s Hurricanes sports teams. This arrangement will include investment, product and uniform development for all 18 intercollegiate Hurricane athletic programmes.
Meanwhile, the renewed deal with Florida International University will run for two years, from 2015-16 until 2016-17, with the option of two additional one-year extensions.
The agreement, which will extend a partnership that began in 2005, will allow Adidas to continue to provide kit to the university’s Panthers sports teams. According to the university’s Student Media website, the deal is worth a total of about $2.6m (€2.1m)
