Adelaide United eyes Chinese market with Datong deal

Australian A-League football team Adelaide United has secured a two-year sponsorship deal with Chinese-owned construction developer Datong Australia.

Under the agreement. Datong becomes Adelaide’s sleeve sponsor for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

A key focus of the deal is for Adelaide to build its presence in the Chinese market. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Adelaide United chairman Greg Griffin said: “We are delighted to be the first Australian football club in a major national sporting competition to secure a major Chinese company as a significant sponsor. Datong is a major developer in China and has already built prestigious apartments and commercial buildings in Adelaide.

“We are excited about this relationship as one that will not only build the Datong brand in Australia, but will provide the platform for Adelaide United to play games in China. With the support of Datong, it will only further enhance our own strong profile in Asia.”
