Title sponsorship rights to the UK and US legs of the Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) motorcycling series have been awarded to motorcycling apparel company Acerbis and insurance firm Geico, respectively.
The Acerbis UK Round of the series begins at Donington Park in Leicestershire, England today (Friday) and concludes on Sunday. Acerbis already holds an existing sponsorship agreement with WorldSBK.
“The UK represents one of the core markets for our brand, and we have (had) a branch near London since 2007,” Guido Acerbis, group chief executive at Acerbis, said. “We decided to title (the) Donington UK WorldSBK round to affirm our investment in this country.”
Meanwhile, the US leg of the series, which will take place at Laguna Seca in California from July 8-10, will officially be titled the Geico Motorcycle US Round.
Geico has also signed a sponsorship agreement with the Kawasaki Racing Team, the series’ defending champion. The company partnered with WorldSBK during the 2015 season.
Both agreements were brokered by the Dorna WSBK Organisation, which operates the championship.
This weekend’s UK leg will mark the seventh round of the 2016 WorldSBK season. The series will travel to Italy next month before California plays host in July.
