Insurance company Uniqa has agreed a deal to become the new title sponsor of the ÖFB Cup Austrian club football competition.
Uniqa has signed a five-year deal with the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) to take on naming rights to the tournament until the end of the 2021-22 season.
The agreement comes into effect from the 2017-18 season onwards and officially renames the competition as the ÖFB Uniqa Cup. Uniqa had a pre-existing relationship with the ÖFB Cup, having sponsored it through the ÖFB since last summer.
“We are very proud to be able to count on Uniqa in the long term as a strong partner at our side,” ÖFB president Leo Windtner said. “It is a very health- and sport-oriented company, which fits perfectly into our sponsor family. We look forward to a collaboration that is driven by clear common goals and visions.
“Also noteworthy is the long-term orientation of this partnership. Five years is a long time, especially in the fast-paced world of football. This means a clear commitment from Uniqa to the Cup and underlines the importance of this traditional competition in the sports landscape. All of Austrian football will benefit enormously from this commitment.”
Uniqa will replace Korean electronics giant Samsung as title sponsor of the ÖFB Cup.
Red Bull Salzburg is the defending champion, having defeated Admira Wacker Mödling 5-0 in last year’s final. This year’s competition continues with the quarter-finals next month.
