Uber adds Lions to NFL portfolio

NFL American football team the Detroit Lions has entered into a partnership with transportation company Uber.

The season-long deal names Uber as the official rideshare of the Lions for the 2016 NFL campaign, which got underway last week.

As part of the deal, an exclusive Uber pick-up and drop-off point will be provided for Lions fans on game days.

Fans who use the service will be given the chance to win exclusive giveaways, while Uber will also offer first-time users an exclusive promotion code, which is valid for one free ride up to $20 (€18).

“Providing options for fans arriving and departing from Ford Field on Lions game days continues to be a priority,” Lions team president Rod Wood said. “Partnering with Uber will give fans a convenient and safe transportation alternative as well as encourage ride-sharing.”

The Lions’ 2016 season began with a 39-35 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Uber last month agreed a similar deal with fellow NFL team the Miami Dolphins.
