Turkish Airlines extends backing of Cricket Ireland

Turkish Airlines has renewed its partnership with the Cricket Ireland national governing body.

Under the new two-year agreement, Turkish Airlines will continue as a headline sponsor of the body and Ireland’s senior men’s team until 2019.

Turkish Airlines also sponsors Cricket Ireland’s annual awards through its partnership with the body, which began in April.

Dennis Cousins, Cricket Ireland’s commercial director, said: “Agreeing to extend our partnership with a world-famous brand like Turkish Airlines to 2019 is a great boost for Cricket Ireland. The national and international reach of Irish cricket gives Turkish Airlines a platform to leverage their brand, not just in Ireland, but globally, across territories where we both enjoy high levels of visibility and a shared footprint.

“India, Bangladesh, South Africa and the UK are just some of these territories and we look forward to growing our partnership further with Turkish Airlines, one of the leading sports sponsorship rights holders globally.”

Irish cricket was boosted in June when it was confirmed that Afghanistan and Ireland would become the sport’s 11th and 12th Test-playing nations. The International Cricket Council’s annual general meeting saw Afghanistan and Ireland approved as full members of the global governing body meaning they are now eligible to play Test cricket.

In February, the ICC confirmed it was considering promoting Ireland and Afghanistan to Test status, as long as they could fulfil full membership criteria. The two associate nations had fought a long campaign to be granted the right to play Test cricket.
