Total confirms Copa América Centenario deal ahead of kick-off

French multinational energy firm Total has confirmed a deal to become an official partner of the Copa América Centenario national team football tournament, which begins in the United States later today (Friday).

Under the deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, the firm will back the tournament through its Total Quartz brand of lubricants. Total has been linked to becoming an official sponsor in recent days and confirmed the agreement through a statement on the official website of its Brazilian division.

Total struck the deal with Soccer United Marketing, the marketing arm of Major League Soccer, which has been responsible for brokering partnerships for the centennial edition of the Copa América.

As an official partner, Total will be granted use of the tournament’s intellectual properties during advertising and marketing campaigns. It will also receive extensive advertising exposure at the tournament through packaging, consumer promotions and signage at games.

Total joins MasterCard, Ford, Procter & Gamble, Comex, Anheuser-Busch, Delta Air Lines, Sprint, State Farm, Coca-Cola, Makita, Nike, Samsung and Tag Heuer as official Copa América Centenario partners.

This year’s tournament, which is being staged outside of South America for the first time, commences later today when the United States take on Colombia at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
