PGA Tour golf tournament the Sanderson Farms Championship has signed a 10-year extension to its partnership with its title sponsor.
The new contract with US food company Sanderson Farms will run from 2017 to 2026, with the current deal set to expire following next year’s tournament. The Sanderson Farms Championship takes place annually at the Country Club of Jackson, Mississippi.
Since first partnering with the tournament in 2013, Sanderson Farms has helped the event raise money for Mississippi-based charities and children’s hospitals. Last year’s championship generated $1.4m (€1.3m) for charity.
“Now we are certain of the opportunities the tournament provides, and feel it shows our commitment to both our state and its children,” Joe F. Sanderson, chief executive and chairman of the board at Sanderson Farms, said. “Our greatest hope is that this 10-year commitment will encourage others to respond likewise and reinvest on our great state.”
This year's event begins later today (Thursday), with Canadian Nick Taylor (pictured) winning the event last year as a PGA Tour rookie.
