Spanish telecommunications company Telefonica has extended its sponsorship of UCI WorldTour cycling squad Team Movistar for the next three years.
Telefonica, through its Spanish mobile phone operator Movistar, initially partnered with the team in 2011 and will look to develop the next stage of their relationship in the digital sphere.
Team Movistar has 130,000 followers across its official channels on social media websites Twitter, Facebook, Tuenti and Instagram and Telefonica believes the tie-up aligns with its global strategy of gaining brand visibility across Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Through the initial three years of Telefonica’s sponsorship, Team Movistar registered 82 wins, including 32 in 2013 when Colombian rider Nairo Quintana came second in the Tour de France and took home the King of the Mountains and Young Rider jerseys.
