French insurance company Groupama has struck a deal to become the title sponsor of Team France for the 35th edition of the America’s Cup sailing event.
Under the agreement, the team will be known as Groupama Team France during the next edition of the competition, which begins next month with the first event of the America’s Cup World Series in Portsmouth, England.
The 35th America’s Cup will feature events in various location around the world, before concluding with the final races, which take place in Bermuda in June 2017.
Team France becomes the second team this week to take on a title sponsor for the next edition of the America’s Cup, with British automotive company Jaguar Land Rover also securing the title sponsorship position with the Ben Ainslie Racing team.
Groupama has been a partner of Team France skipper Franck Cammas (pictured in action at the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race) since 1998, supporting him during key victories in a number of events.
Groupama said it will seek to combine a whole “ecosystem” of ambassadors around the project, including partners and SMEs from its regions.
“Through this human, sporting and technological commitment at the highest global level, Groupama, whose history is intertwined with that of our regions, wants to show its confidence in a winning France,” Thierry Martel, chief executive of Groupama, said.
