Swiss watch manufacturer Tag Heuer has agreed a deal to sponsor the Copa Libertadores, the club football competition organised by the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).
Tag Heuer will serve as the official timekeeper and official watch of the Copa Libertadores in 2018 and 2019. The deal is effective from January.
As part of the agreement, match referees will be given a Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 watch to use during games.
Jean-Claude Biver, chief executive of Tag Heuer, said: “Football is the most popular sport in the world, with which we communicate passion, emotion, team spirit, strategy and victory values in our brand and, even more importantly, in the people who buy and wear our watches.
“Today we are proud to announce this association between Tag Heuer and the Conmebol Copa Libertadores, the most prestigious club tournament in South America.”
Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A club Grêmio is the defending Copa Libertadores champion, having beaten Argentinian Primera División team Lanús 3-1 over a two-legged final last month.
Tag Heuer’s extensive football sponsorship portfolio also includes partnerships with the English Premier League, German Bundesliga, Spanish LaLiga and the French Football League.
