The Dacia car brand of French automotive manufacturer Renault has strengthened its commitment to rugby league in England by striking a deal to become the new principal partner of the Magic Weekend, one of the showpiece events of the Super League.
The agreement will run for three seasons, from 2016 to 2018. Under the deal, the next three editions of the event will be known as the Dacia Magic Weekend.
This year’s event, which will feature all 12 Super League teams, is due to take place at St James’ Park in Newcastle over the weekend of May 21-22.
The deal comes after Romanian marque Dacia in January entered into a partnership with the Rugby Football League, the governing body of rugby league in England.
Chris Rawlings, commercial director for the RFL, said: “Dacia’s early engagement with the rugby league community has been really positive. Their long-term commitment to the game is helping to support the future of the sport.”
