The Muthoot Group conglomerate has agreed a deal to become the principal partner of Indian Premier League Twenty20 cricket franchise the Chennai Super Kings.
The three-year deal covers the 2018 to 2020 editions of the IPL. As part of the deal, Muthoot’s branding will appear on the front of the Super Kings’ shirts.
The 2018 IPL season runs from April 7 to May 27. This year’s campaign will mark the Super Kings’ return to the IPL following a two-year absence. The team was suspended during the 2016 and 2017 campaigns for its role in the spot-fixing scandal that hit the 2013 edition of the tournament.
KS Viswanathan, chief executive of Chennai Super Kings, said: “With its wide network of 4500-plus branches pan India, our association with the Muthoot Group will definitely boost the popularity of our brand. The Muthoot Group and its flagship company, Muthoot Finance, have a dominating presence across Tamil Nadu with 900-plus branches.”
India stars Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja have all signed on for the team’s return.
